CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities in Albemarle Co. issued a critically missing adult alert for a 33-year-old man named Foster—6-foot-1 and 161 pounds with blue eyes and black hair—and are asking anyone with information to come forward.  29 News
  • A critically missing adult alert was issued by the Albemarle County Police Department for 33-year-old Christopher Morgan Foster, a 6-foot-1 man with blue eyes & black hair who last spoke with his father on August 7th at 1:23 p.m. and may be in a silver 2007 Honda Civic with plate GVITALL as his disappearance poses a credible threat to his health and safety.  29 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • On August 8, a free concert series took place at Ting Pavilion in downtown Charlottesville featuring Adam’s Plastic Pond opening at 5:30 p.m.—doors opened at 5 p.m.—with headliner Erin and the Wildfire drawing a crowd. Food and drink were available for purchase as local attendees enjoyed the event.  29 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After two decades of planning, Buford Middle School has become a modern Charlottesville Middle School building that will soon welcome seventh and eighth graders – teachers started their preparations this week and crews will keep working at the old building until final renovations finish in 2026.  29 News
  • UVA ended its nearly 60-year college prep program Uplift@UVa on Aug. 1 — the program, formerly known as Upward Bound, was cut after modest participation — and will support low-income and first-generation students through other initiatives such as Starr Hill Pathways. This decision follows careful evaluation of the program's long-term viability and federal funding requirements.  The Daily Progress

  • UVA Health and Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital were recognized by the American Heart Association for their work improving heart health—showing local hospitals' commitment to quality care.  29 News

  • Today, Mystik Dan becomes the first Kentucky Derby winner to race at Colonial Downs when he competes in the Arlington Million on turf with jockey Brian Hernandez Jr.—joining two other former Derby-winning riders in a field of 12 races with over $2.8 million in prize money.  Cville Right Now
  • Coach’s Corner Show begins its new season on Tuesday at the Dairy Market as John Freeman interviews Virginia football coach Tony Elliot about roster changes and new players for 15 episodes airing from Aug. 19 through Nov. 25—guests can attend in person to join giveaways and ask questions. The live taping is set for 1 p.m. and the show will air at 7:06 p.m. on Virginia Sports Radio Network with free parking available.  Cville Right Now
