ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A house in the Keswick area of Albemarle County exploded around 6:00 p.m. today in a suspected propane gas fire—first responders treated several victims, and one was sent to UVA hospital with life-threatening injuries. 29 News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Albemarle County Police Department is searching for 80-year-old Lawerence Gains Thomas (cognitive impairment) who was last seen at 5:00 p.m. on Secretary's Sand Road in Albemarle County, and they ask anyone with information to call the department. 29 News
- ➤ Local law enforcement in Albemarle County are searching for a missing senior—officials have not released further details and urge anyone with information to come forward. 29 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Albemarle County police began using new speed cameras on Aug 13 to warn drivers going 10 mph over the limit in school zones on Route 250 near Crozet—drivers will face fines up to $100 after Sept 15. Charlottesville installed six cameras on Cherry Ave and Monticello Ave to help keep students safe during drop-off and pick up times. Charlottesville Tomorrow
- ➤ Charlottesville City Council approved a cheaper shared-use path for VDOT’s Avon Street Streetscape project that removes 33 on-street parking spaces, and councilors expressed concerns about property expectations—while the city will take over the Moore’s Creek pedestrian bridge to meet city standards. - ➤ The 10th class in the public safety Communication Officer Academy began last week and will run for a 12-week course, training dispatchers from Charlottesville, UVA, and Albemarle County in city geography, policies, procedures, and role plays—simulating real-time emergencies. 29 News
- ➤ Charlottesville City Council approved a request by the UVA Alumni Association for $50-million in bonds to fund the demolition and rebuilding of Alumni Hall with no city money involved—councilor Michael Payne was the sole dissent while councilor Lloyd Snook said the project could boost local business and add jobs. 3WV

- ➤ UVA Health University Medical Center earned the highest trauma care honor when it was verified as a Level I Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons — marking its fourth verification since 2015 and showing it meets strict standards for emergency care for both adults and children. 3WV
