CRIME NEWS

  • A 40-year-old man was injured in a shooting late Saturday night on the 1100 block of E. Market St in downtown Charlottesville — police said the victim was taken to the hospital and the case is under investigation, marking the second weekend in a row with a downtown incident.  3WV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University’s 28-member presidential search committee met Friday at Boar’s Head Resort to set the process for hiring a new president and introduced external search firm Isaacson, Miller—tasked with advising on candidate recruitment. The committee discussed candidate qualities, including leadership and support for the Health System, while planning to share more details with the community soon.  The Cavalier Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Rivanna Solid Waste Authority is making recycling easier in Charlottesville by offering single-stream curbside pickup and drop-off points for sorted recyclables — helping to reduce contamination and save landfill space. Westley Kern said the changes ensure that reusable materials are kept out of landfills.  29 News
  • Experts say milkweed is toxic to some animals—yet it remains vital for monarch butterflies that rely on it to reproduce. They advise handling the plant with care and keeping pets away as research continues on its benefits.  29 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A circuit court judge revived Charlottesville's zoning lawsuit, saying the city has met the threshold to let the debate on its upzoning plan go to trial—this decision means a trial on the case will start on June 22 next year.  The Daily Progress
  • Charlottesville residents will attend a forum on Tuesday as the city plans to reintroduce school resource officers to local schools. The meeting will let locals listen to proposals and provide feedback before the plan is finalized.  The Daily Progress

SPORTS NEWS

  • Junior midfielder Brendan Lambe scored in the 40th minute to give Virginia a 1-0 win over Stetson on Sunday, marking the team's first two clean sheet wins since 2019. A 50-minute weather delay postponed kickoff—yet the win boosts local hopes as the season begins.  The Cavalier Daily
