COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Charlottesville officials are inviting residents to share feedback on a plan to turn a vacant quarter-acre into a playground in the Meadows neighborhood (the area currently lacks a designated play space).  The Daily Progress
  • The Albemarle County Police Department is taking part in Cover the Cruiser at several Wawa locations this week to support Special Olympics Virginia. Officers give out shirts and prizes for donations and attach a tag on their cruiser—showing how many people have helped.  29 News

CRIME NEWS

  • ACPD is seeking information on five-year-old Conner, a blonde child wearing a grey t-shirt, grey shorts and dark shoes who was last seen walking a pair of white great pyrenees puppies toward the woods on the 5400 block of Jefferson Mill Road in Scottsville between 4:14 and 4:20 p.m. on Monday.  3WV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Charlottesville City Schools plan to discuss bringing back school resource officers today at Trail Blazer Elementary from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.—a forum where students, staff, and families will share their views on school safety. The school board aims to align its safety plans with community values after operating without SROs since 2020.  29 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Charlottesville Circuit Court Judge Claude Worrell ruled on Aug.22 that the lawsuit over the city's new zoning ordinance will go to trial after reversing a default judgment issued on June30—this decision comes as developers and residents seek clarity amid disputes over the Comprehensive Plan's approval process. A group of Charlottesville residents filed the suit in January after arguing the city submitted only the transportation chapter to the state, which they claim voids the entire ordinance.  Charlottesville Tomorrow
  • The Albemarle County Electoral Board is holding meetings today and Thursday that could reveal details on General Registrar Lauren Eddy’s resignation—she resigned after being placed on administrative leave amid an investigation. No agendas have been posted and officials have not replied to inquiries, while early in-person voting for November elections will start on September 19.  Cville Right Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • UVA Health is the highest rated employer for women among Virginia health systems according to a Forbes survey that asked employees about work-life balance, advancement, and pay equity—The survey ranked UVA Health as seventh in Virginia and 22nd among health systems nationally.  Cville Right Now
  • Women at UVA Health have earned national recognition from Forbes—acknowledging their barrier-breaking efforts to advance health care innovation.  29 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • UVA’s men’s and women’s soccer teams are 5-0 and have yet to allow a goal this season—winning shutouts on Thursday and Sunday. The teams will face Charlotte and George Mason on Thursday and then play Georgetown and American later this week as they aim to extend their win streak.  Cville Right Now
