- ➤ Charlottesville Tomorrow has printed the Housing Resources Guide brochures covering nearly 100 housing supports in four languages—Arabic, English, Pashto and Spanish. The brochures can be downloaded online or requested for delivery for those without printer access. Charlottesville Tomorrow
- ➤ Over 100 young swimmers and volunteers will gather on Sept 7 at Fry’s Spring Beach Club for the second annual Splash Bash, organized by Western Albemarle High School sophomores Thomas Rockwell and Eli Rutherford to bring swim lessons and water safety to kids in underserved communities—activities will include swim races, a raft race, and a cannonball contest with local food donations. - ➤ Water Street and 2nd Street remain closed because a utility pole fell near Live Arts and CVS, and buses are delayed as vehicles are rerouted away from downtown. Charlottesville Area Transit said crews are working to clear the area and restore service soon. 29 News

- ➤ Four Charlottesville-area businesswomen from the nonprofit, real estate, accounting, and biotechnology sectors were named among the 2025 Women in Leadership honorees by Virginia Business magazine and were recognized for their leadership and community work. - ➤ The Albemarle County Police Department made its fourth arrest in connection to last October’s gang shooting at Rio Hill Apartments—18-year-old Jamarques Lamont Andres Jones of Charlottesville—who is held without bond and faces charges like hurting someone badly, joining a gang, and using a gun during a crime after the shooting killed 23-year-old Zerrion Eubanks-Warfield. 29 News

- ➤ Cleo E. Powell, a 1982 UVA Law grad known as Double Hoo, was unanimously elected by her peers as the next Chief Justice of the Virginia Supreme Court. She will replace S. Bernard Goodwyn on January 1 and become the first Black woman to lead the state's highest court—an historic milestone for Virginia. 106.1 The Corner
- ➤ Supervisors are questioning whether police in rural areas can meet a 10-minute response target—experts point out that long travel distances may slow response times, even as County COO Kristy Shifflett said extra officers and federal funds are being used to improve services. - ➤ Scientists at UVA and the University of Michigan have developed a new antibody that may treat sepsis by targeting its root cause rather than just its symptoms. Lab tests (in mice) showed that it protects organs and saves lives. 29 News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Virginia's football team will face Coastal Carolina Saturday at Scott Stadium as both teams tackle an uncertain opener with remade rosters—UVA added 54 new players to its lineup while Coastal Carolina sticks with last year's playbook.
