ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Central Virginia environmental pioneer Michael Collins, 65, was fatally struck by a car near Ruckersville in Greene County at about 6:10 p.m. on July 29 while helping a stranded motorist — his nonprofit said they are reviewing next steps for his projects and planning a memorial for Sept. 7 at Oakencroft Farm and Winery. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ SOL scores for the 2024-2025 school year have been released for Charlottesville, Albemarle and Louisa schools. Charlottesville and Albemarle schools saw small gains in math and reading but still show big gaps with Black students and students with disabilities—Louisa County did better and school officials plan to use the data to help all students improve. 29 News
- ➤ Local adult literacy programs in Charlottesville face uncertainty as federal funds are frozen and new guidelines limit help for undocumented immigrants—forcing Literacy Volunteers to cut about 25% of its budget and focus on fundraising.
