ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A garbage truck dragged low-hanging utility wires downtown on Wednesday, knocking down a utility pole and blocking an intersection, and police said the driver stayed to give his information and will not be charged because the wires were too low. The Daily Progress
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ This summer, 1,080 students participated in study abroad programs in places like Cape Town, Lyon and Oxford, benefiting from guidance by the International Studies Office that prepared them for cultural and academic challenges. Students reported stronger language skills and career readiness from their hands-on experiences – though some wished the programs had lasted longer. The Cavalier Daily

- ➤ The Charlottesville-UVA-Albemarle 911 center is honoring three dispatchers for lifesaving work—officials say their calm and repeated guidance during emergencies makes a critical difference. - ➤ DOJ lawyer Gregory Brown—a UVA alumnus—had a history of legal action against the University as he represented plaintiffs in lawsuits alleging discrimination before signing letters that pressured Rector Ryan to end diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. - ➤ In his UVA debut, Cam Ross scored on a 100-yard kick return and a 29-yard receiving touchdown as UVA beat Coastal Carolina 48–7 at Scott Stadium — he finished with seven catches for 124 yards and will face North Carolina State next weekend. 3WV
- ➤ Addison Halpern, the nation’s top high school soccer forward, is learning college play after training with Virginia since spring and playing in key games like a 2-0 win on Sunday at Liberty. She won the Gatorade National Player of the Year award in June and her speed and skill are expected to boost the Cavaliers as they face top rivals this season — her strong play is a big asset.
