- ➤ Today, the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is raising awareness for Hunger Action Month by urging locals to donate, volunteer, and advocate as it faced a 16% rise in weekly visits—averaging over 170,000 guests in the past fiscal year. The food bank will also join community events, including a Mad Jazz and Wine Festival on Sept. 6, where a portion of the proceeds will support hunger relief. 3WV

- ➤ Albemarle County Police Department has issued a shelter-in-place alert for a 2-mile radius around the 3800 block of Scottsville Road — where officers are searching for a possibly armed suspect described as a Black teen in a black hoodie carrying a two-tone backpack — and residents must stay indoors while others avoid the area. 29 News
- ➤ Former UVa admin Yvonne Hillman pleaded guilty to embezzling $20,432 from the McIntire School of Commerce foundation by charging personal items and repaying the full amount—she received a five-year sentence with all time suspended and must show good behavior. The Daily Progress

- ➤ On Monday night, Charlottesville City Council considered an appeal of the Board of Architectural Review’s unanimous denial to demolish the historic Wertenbaker House. - ➤ Albemarle County Fire Chief Dan Eggleston will retire on October 24 after 23 years leading fire rescue. A day after announcing his retirement plans, he responded to an explosion in the Glenmore subdivision that flattened a house, killed a woman, injured a man, and damaged a dozen properties.
