COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The nonprofit arm of the Charlottesville Area Association of Realtors is hosting a benefit concert today at Pro Re Nata Brewery to support affordable housing in the area. The Daily Progress
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At the University, upperclassmen say first-year students do not need to decide on a major right away because statistics show 30 percent change majors within three years and many try different courses before choosing. Advisors encourage students to explore classes — helping them build a solid backup plan before picking a major. The Cavalier Daily
- ➤ University librarians supervise the student-led Library Council that advises resource use at Clemons Library, Edgar Shannon Library and Charles L. Brown Science and Engineering Library while offering career events, study cafes and social opportunities for students. The group also works with student literary organizations and will evolve its focus as the Dean of Libraries retires and a new leader is appointed. The Cavalier Daily
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, September 2, Charlottesville City Council voted 7-0 to deny an appeal to demolish a historic house on Wertland Street, preserving the structure — built in 1842 — as a rare link to our city's past. Historic Preservation Design Planner Jeffery Werner said preserving such buildings protects the city's connection to its history. 29 News
- ➤ Charlottesville City Council tabled an ordinance that would ban sleeping, camping and storing belongings on public property, leaving the measure open for future review. The decision drew mixed reactions—business leaders called for a safer downtown—while housing advocates urged more affordable housing. 29 News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ UVA now offers non-athlete students the same concussion care as athletes—addressing head injuries from accidents, falls, or physical fights—with a program that connects them to neurologists, guided exercise, and academic support after a $300,000 grant from Jefferson Trust. 29 News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ UVA football won 48-7 over Coastal Carolina as quarterback Chandler Morris threw two touchdowns and receiver Cam Ross returned a kickoff for a score — while field hockey beat Penn State 5-1 with defender Lauren Sloan earning ACC honors.
