  • Charlottesville firefighters responded to an apparent car fire in the Market Street parking garage that led emergency responders to block off a stretch of the street.  29 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Charlottesville City Schools will mark Charlottesville 12 Day on September 8 when a General Assembly resolution honoring the schools is to be presented outside the Albemarle County Office Building at 10 a.m.—Delegate Katrina Callsen will present House Joint Resolution 750 to Charles Alexander, a surviving member of the 12 students who first integrated the public schools in 1959.  3WV
  • UVA Law will present a walking tour honoring Gregory Swanson— the first Black student admitted to the law school— by retracing his daily route across Charlottesville to celebrate his historic achievements.  29 News
  • College rankings show different views on college value as methods vary; the University of Virginia ranked 24th in U.S. News and 113th in Washington Monthly's list—Lee Elberson, CEO of a local tutoring service, noted that the chase for prestige might push admissions to favor higher grades.  Cville Right Now

  • Camp Holiday Trails broke ground on a new medical facility for children with medical needs in Charlottesville — construction will continue in the coming weeks as the camp expands its services.  CBS 19 News

  • Virginia’s football team lost 35—31 to NC State on Saturday as a late interception by graduate quarterback Chandler Morris ended a chance for a comeback.
