- ➤ Soup swap parties let Charlottesville neighbors share homemade soups and recipes during fall—helping them cut down on solo meals and boost community ties. CBS 19 News
- ➤ The City of Charlottesville, Albemarle County Service Authority and Rivanna Water & Sewer Authority have launched the 11th annual Imagine a Day without Water art contest to show youth how important water is. Youth in grades K to 12 must submit original art by October 27, and finalists in each age group plus the top photography entry will earn a $200 cash prize when winners are announced on December 10. - ➤ The Fralin Museum of Art opened the exhibit 'In Feeling: Empathy and Tension Through Disability' on Aug. 30 to let visitors explore disability through art using video, music, and touch. - ➤ At Barrett Early Learning Center on Monday morning, children listened to a presentation by community advocate Alex-Zan—teaching the value of focused listening—and the session encouraged mindful learning and speaking. 29 News
- ➤ On September 14, at the Jefferson Madison Regional Library, UVA employees and union members shared stories of struggling with low pay as living costs in Charlottesville rise. They urged the university to commit to a living wage by linking pay with the local cost of living—an appeal led by the UCWVA. 29 News
- ➤ Albemarle County officials are reviewing measures to ease overcrowding at two high schools where trailers are used for extra classrooms—16 at Albemarle and 8 at Western. The school board is studying whether to renovate existing schools, expand educational centers, or build a new high school that could cost up to $200 million and require redrawing district lines. - ➤ The Department of Justice closed two investigations into UVA after discussions with interim president Paul Mahoney. The investigations — one looking into the admissions process at Batten and McIntire schools and one examining antisemitism complaints — played a role in former president Jim Ryan’s resignation. - ➤ The Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority is hosting a public information session today to explain a $300 million upgrade that will add five miles of water transmission pipe to improve Charlottesville’s drinking water — the meeting will cover the project’s history, construction plans, schedule and safety measures. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Today, UVA Health officials found at least six noncompliant car seats during screenings at inpatient and outpatient centers—preparing for Child Passenger Safety Week from September 21 through 27—and reported the seats to the National Highway Safety and Transportation website while handing out safety guides to local families. They urge families to shop with trusted retailers to ensure car seats are properly crash tested and safe for children. 3WV

- ➤ Charlottesville now has its first indoor pickleball facility as Cville Smash opened Monday at 387 Hillsdale Drive in Seminole Square Shopping Center—this 33,000-square-foot venue offers nine courts along with a pro shop, restaurant, bar, and lounge and hosts daily open play, lessons, leagues, tournaments, and clinics.
