  • ReLeaf Cville will offer free trees and training for Fifeville residents starting Sunday (2:45 p.m.) as volunteers gather at the Carver Recreation Center. Families who sign up will receive trees at no cost and gain support to help their new trees thrive.  29 News

  • Two Charlottesville natives and former JMU students, Andrew Porter and Ian Stasko, went missing in the Colorado wilderness after they were seen near the Spruce Hollow Trailhead on Sept. 12—when they were tracking a large bull. Search and rescue teams have been using helicopters and teams on horseback, and a $10,000 reward plus over $70,000 in donations has supported efforts in the rugged, heavily forested area.  3WV

  • Cville Sabroso returns this Saturday at Ting Pavilion from 1-10 p.m. to showcase Latin American art, music and food with 12 performances and eight food vendors, and all proceeds will support Sin Barreras programs. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Clemons Library no longer offers 24-hour access due to budget cuts — it now closes at 2 a.m. on weekdays and has shorter weekend hours, leaving students with fewer late-night study spots until exam periods extend hours.  The Cavalier Daily

  • The Rivanna Solid Waste Authority is holding a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event for Albemarle County, Charlottesville, and Scottsville residents at the Ivy Solid Waste & Recycling Center—4576 Dick Woods Road—from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday; no advance registration is required.  3WV

  • Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson spoke at UVA Grounds on Thursday, September 18, sharing her new memoir and her journey from Harvard Law to the Supreme Court with hundreds of students, faculty and community members—an event that highlighted her historic role in government. Former UVA Law roommate Kimberly Jenkins Robinson and students noted Jackson’s hard work as an inspiration for future leaders.  29 News
  • Governor Youngkin issued Executive Order 53 to boost election security as early voting begins today, directing state officials to coordinate with federal agencies including the Department of Homeland Security — and update voting system standards. Charlottesville’s Director of Elections said many measures are already in place, with the order formalizing existing practices.  29 News
  • City Council heard concerns over an 11‐story luxury apartment building planned for West Main that local residents say will block Westhaven and violate the new zoning code — a petition with over 700 signatures shows strong local opposition.  3WV
  • Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares joined seven states and the FTC in a lawsuit against Live Nation Entertainment Inc. and Ticketmaster LLC—alleging Ticketmaster allowed brokers to bypass security measures and resell tickets at inflated prices. The suit seeks a preliminary injunction and other consumer relief to enforce the Better Online Tickets Sales Act.  3WV
  • Early voting begins today in Virginia for the general election where voters cast ballots for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and all 100 state legislative seats. The six week window gives people more time to vote in a key part of the election process.  CBS 19 News
