- ➤ John Paul Jones Arena has become a community hub after hosting the 34th Annual United Way Day of Caring Kickoff Breakfast and a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb organized by local fire and rescue teams. The arena displays the 2019 National Championship Trophy—highlighting its sports legacy—and will soon welcome basketball fans under coach Ryan Odom with Charlottesville native Kymora Johnson on the court. - ➤ On Friday, additional Augusta County Sheriff's deputies visited Riverheads School Complex near Greeneville after a report of a student threatening to shoot the school—an investigation revealed that another student fabricated the threat and the suspect was identified as school activities continued normally. - ➤ Four candidates including incumbent Emily Dooley (seeking a second term) and incumbent Lisa Larson-Torres (seeking a third term), along with Zyahna Bryant and Dashad Cooper, are running for three open Charlottesville City School Board seats following a Charlottesville Tomorrow voter survey. - ➤ Incumbent Ned Gallaway is running unopposed for a third term to represent the Rio District on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors—he said housing affordability is the county's top challenge. - ➤ Registered voters can now cast ballots in state and local elections including contests for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and every seat in the House of Delegates as early voting opens for the Nov 4 general election. CBS 19 News
- ➤ Tim Heaphy, the writer of the final report on 2017 events in Charlottesville, said the current discussion on the First Amendment takes him back to when he documented those events and explained that public free speech is protected unless it incites imminent unlawful actions—broadcast speech is regulated by the FCC.
