  • ReLeaf Cville’s Green Team canvassed Fifeville to offer free trees to local families—helping them grow a community canopy. The program invites residents to plant the trees to boost green spaces in the neighborhood.  29 News
  • On Sept. 7, community members filled the Downtown Mall’s Paramount Theater to see Light House Studio’s Youth Film Festival as Charlottesville youth from elementary to high school showcased films made in workshops with 58 local partners. The event featured projects from playful stop-motion to serious public service films—culminating in awards for 'Wheel of Misfortunate' and 'New Cat on the Block'.  The Cavalier Daily
  • On the church lawn, a crowd gathered around the long-standing peace pole — a landmark that has stood for years — while the congregation held ceremonies and displayed signs to share their message of peace.  29 News

  • Archivist Justice Menzel has published a report that collects The Cavalier Daily’s articles about Otto Warmbier—a UVA student arrested in 2016 whose detention and death in North Korea sparked wide reactions. The report covers his arrest, sentencing, release, and the legal and diplomatic follow-ups that followed his tragic case.  The Cavalier Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Virginia officials reported that the invasive Box Tree Moth has been spotted in Clarke, Loudoun and Frederick Counties—its caterpillars damage boxwood plants by eating the bark and causing defoliation. Researchers are studying the pest and will provide science-based solutions and resources to help slow its spread if further infestations occur.  29 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Last Tuesday, Rep. John McGuire hosted his third telephone town hall with just 24-hour notice, saying he had traveled the district and visited Charlottesville to meet constituents. Several 5th District residents reported that calls were screened—raising concerns about the lack of an in-person meeting.  The Daily Progress
