  • From Sept. 22—28, Charlottesville residents using SNAP get a two-to-one match on fresh fruits and vegetables at farmers markets like Little Market at Lampo, Farmers in the Park, Farmers Market at Ix, Charlottesville City Market, and Starr Hill Farmers Market—this program helps families manage food costs amid upcoming federal SNAP changes.  Charlottesville Tomorrow

  • The UVA Board of Visitors’ Presidential Search Special Committee will interview candidates in late November at Boar’s Head—its next step after holding open and closed sessions. Students, faculty and alumni want a president who is clear and builds trust.  106.1 The Corner
  • Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson spoke at UVa as debates over diversity policies stirred discussions on campus — she said that difference can actually be meaningful as she reflected on her race and personal rise. Her remarks came amid ongoing talks about the university's approach to inclusion.  The Daily Progress
  • NASA announced on September 22nd that Charlottesville native Ben Bailey—a graduate of the University of Virginia and a Naval Test Pilot School alumnus—is one of 10 astronaut candidates selected from over 8,000 applicants, and he must finish a two-year training program to prepare for possible moon and Mars missions.  29 News
  • Residents in Virginia began casting ballots when early voting started Friday—voters now have a chance to cast their ballots ahead of Election Day.  The Daily Progress
  • Charlottesville is accepting HOPS grant applications to help low-income residents and support housing services—applications must be submitted by October 20 at 5:00 p.m. and groups may schedule meetings with the Acting Housing Program Manager.  Cville Right Now
  • Virginia Dept. of Forestry is offering free riparian forest buffer installations with one year of maintenance to eligible landowners on a first-come, first-served basis until funding is depleted. Projects will be planned for establishment from fall to spring with support continuing through 2027 — the program is open to private owners, homeowner associations, and civic leagues.  Cville Right Now
  • Incumbent Joe Platania is running unopposed as Charlottesville's Commonwealth's Attorney, a role he has held since 2018. He answered a questionnaire by Charlottesville Tomorrow to explain his plans to address issues like gun violence, youth crime and overdose deaths—focusing on treatment, prevention and diversion rather than harsh penalties.  Charlottesville Tomorrow

  • No. 3 Virginia rallied for a 2-1 win over No. 4 Syracuse at JP Coyne Stadium on Sunday as junior midfielder Mia Abello scored the game-winning goal with 54 seconds remaining. The Cavaliers showed a strong comeback after a slow first half and will travel to Berkley at 9 p.m. Friday to face the Golden Bears.  The Cavalier Daily
  • No. 1 Virginia women’s soccer traveled to Syracuse Saturday night and defeated the Orange 3-0—key goals came from Lia Godfrey, Ella Carter, and Maggie Cagle to keep the team undefeated.
