EDUCATION NEWS

  • Albemarle County school staff built 30 bikes donated by the Dogwood Foundation at Monticello High School to prepare for the Christmas season—these bikes will head to children who need them most.  29 News
  • University students are weighing whether to bring their cars back to school because parking on Grounds is limited and searching for a spot can take 25 to 30 minutes—Riley Kane and others report that steep fines and long wait times make driving less appealing—so many choose to walk or ride with friends instead.  The Cavalier Daily

  • Today at InnoVage’s PACE Center, Fallapalooza offers seniors fall-prevention tools—physical therapy sessions with games, skits, and exercises that help them stay independent.  29 News
  • UVA Health is hosting the Know Your Numbers event today at the Mount Zion First African Baptist Church—offering free lab tests valued over $1000 and health screenings that check blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure for both men and women, with mammograms available for pre-registered women.  Cville Right Now
  • Charlottesville Free Clinic offers medical, dental and mental health care with help from a team of 600 volunteers and strong community funding. However, officials warned that upcoming Medicaid cuts could bring more patients needing care—straining the clinic’s resources.  Cville Right Now
  • UVA Health researchers are testing focused ultrasound to treat addiction and substance-use disorders by targeting deep brain areas to cut cravings—this non-invasive method may add to current care. They plan to expand the trial to help more people in the future.  29 News

  • Today, fans crossed state lines to support UVA as local business saw a boost in foot traffic & sales after the navy blue game theme was announced. Mincer’s noted that early tailgating and a rising season have brought extra energy to the area.  29 News
  • After playing 100 games for BYU, Dallin Hall is using his final season of eligibility to lead Virginia basketball under Coach Ryan Odom—he said Charlottesville fans have welcomed him with strong support as the team begins practice for its November 3 opener.  Cville Right Now
  • On Friday night, FSU fans joined UVA supporters in Charlottesville for the ACC game, with out-of-state fans adding excitement to the matchup—many crossed state lines to cheer on their teams.  29 News
  • The UVA Cavaliers stunned No. 8 Florida State 46-38 in double overtime as Chandler Morris threw for two touchdowns and ran for three on a recent game in Charlottesville.
