CULTURE NEWS

  • The 45th Crozet Arts & Crafts Festival will take place at Claudius Crozet Park on Oct. 11-12 — over 125 artists will display handmade works in various creative categories. Festival director Eva Herr said the event draws community members from Crozet and greater Charlottesville.  Cville Right Now
  • The McGuffey Art Center celebrated its 50th anniversary this month as past and present members gathered to honor its history since it opened in October 1975. Local artists such as Judy McLeod and Sam Fisher recalled the center’s role in shaping the local arts scene — and they plan to keep its artistic legacy strong.  Cville Right Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Charlottesville Parent-Teacher Organization plans to start a citywide school fund because some schools raise more money than others, a board member said.  29 News
  • University students and teachers celebrated Deaf Awareness Month in September by taking sign language classes and sharing their stories on campus. Leaders like Lydia Smith and Professor Christopher Krentz worked to show that being deaf is not a disability but a difference while promoting ongoing inclusion.  The Cavalier Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Albemarle supervisors are reviewing the next phase of data center rules — they are looking at new guidelines that may change how these centers work. They will set up more meetings — planning further steps that could affect local business.  29 News
  • VDOT is carrying out 29 overnight bypass closures as part of the Old Ivy Road bridge rehabilitation project—planned before the Monday accident—to replace the deck, beams and piers. Official Alexis Mehretab said drivers must follow signed detours for trucks and passenger vehicles during each closure.  Cville Right Now
  • The government shutdown may cause WIC funding to run out within the next week, which could affect food benefits for over 100000 Virginia families. State agencies are still distributing SNAP benefits while local food banks prepare to serve those in need—officials stress clear communication until the shutdown ends.  29 News
  • The Rivanna Water & Sewer Authority will start work on the Ragged Mountain Pool Fill Project next week to raise the reservoir level from 671 feet by an additional 12 feet and add 700 million gallons of water. Reservoir Road from Holiday Trails Lane to the upper parking lot will be closed temporarily—tree and vegetation clearing and modifications to the intake tower and dam drainage are planned to improve long-term water reliability.  3WV

  • Dr. Scott Wagner at Advanced Pain Management of Virginia is offering regenerative medicine treatments that help ease chronic pain using methods like stem cell and ozone therapies.   • Virginia's football team won a 46-38 double overtime upset of Florida State on Friday.
