- ➤ Martha Jeffersons Hospital Foundation launched its 23rd annual In the Pink charity event last Friday at 6 p.m. at Farmington Country Club, where nine clubs compete in tennis and pickleball to raise funds that stay local to help cover screenings, wigs & scarves, retreats and other vital resources for breast cancer support. 29 News
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ VDOT said pedestrian deaths in Virginia have risen 43% since 2020, with over 1,300 killed in the past decade—Wednesday a 67-year-old man was struck and killed on Emmet Street North in Charlottesville as officials work to upgrade crosswalks and build a new Route 29 pedestrian bridge. 29 News

- ➤ Peter Chang’s China Grill in the Barrack’s Shopping Center will close this month because its lease expires. The dining room shuts Monday—takeout orders remain available until Oct. 31. Cville Right Now
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UVA's 2025 Clery Report shows that in 2024 more than 220 alcohol violations + 42 drug cases were recorded on campus, and officials will use the findings to boost campus safety and fire security. 29 News
- ➤ The University of Virginia is reviewing a federal compact that would offer funding in exchange for following White House priorities on admissions, free speech, and diversity—students, faculty, and alumni have voiced strong opinions about its impact. Interim President Mahoney formed a working group to prepare a response as the Faculty Senate urged rejection of parts of the proposal. 29 News

- ➤ City Council will consider purchasing a $6.2-million property at 2000 Holiday Drive for a potential low-barrier homeless shelter at its Monday night meeting. The resolution includes a short study period until October 30 and the city plans to engage nonprofits and use funds already set aside with a closing planned by November 30. 3WV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank partnered with the Orange County Free Clinic in May to offer free food and personal items to patients who struggle with high costs and food insecurity. Clinic director Dorren Brown said the clinic plans an 800‑square foot extension later this year to add fresh produce and a community education room. Cville Right Now
- ➤ A big donation gave UVA Health a new vehicle to support its Community Paramedicine program — which sends paramedics directly to the homes of patients who often visit the emergency room to reduce repeat trips. CBS 19 News

- ➤ After Virginia won 46 to 38 over Florida State, college fans climbed the bright yellow goalpost at Scott Stadium to try to bring it down. Reinforced design and a police presence prevented enough support from mounting—students could not remove the post as they had hoped. The Cavalier Daily
