ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Triple A MidAtlantic warns Charlottesville drivers that deer on the rut are more active between October and December and may cause costly vehicle collisions on roads. The agency urges drivers to check their policies & stay alert near wooded areas and during early mornings and evenings to help avoid crashes.  3WV

CULTURE NEWS

  • On October 11, Ting Pavilion in downtown Charlottesville hosted a concert where the California Honeydrops opened for the Grammy Award-winning Infamous Stringdusters, who played both classic hits and new songs ahead of their album 20/20.  29 News
  • At Claudius Crozet Park, local artists and visitors gathered for the Crozet Arts and Crafts Festival to celebrate creativity and community tradition in a lively show of local talent.  29 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Book Fest Jr. will be held on Saturday, October 25 at the Crozet Library to engage kids with reading.  29 News
  • Professors at the University are testing AI to make research easier by checking numbers and writing code—one professor compared the school's work with that of 13 other schools. They plan to set up clearer rules so AI is used fairly and safely—steps that could change future courses and studies.  The Cavalier Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Old Ivy Road bridge west of Charlottesville reopened today after repair work following damage from a commercial vehicle collision late last month—officials confirmed the bridge is now safe for travel.  The Daily Progress
  • The Miller Center hosted judges from Brazil, Ghana, Ukraine and the United States on Friday to discuss how courts can protect democracy and promote global security — the event was organized in partnership with the Presidential Precinct and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.  The Cavalier Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • Virginia mother Jacqui Herron—founder of Matthew Matters—has launched a campaign to offer custom suicide prevention license plates that honor those lost to suicide and promote talk about mental health. The plates will show the 9-8-8 crisis line and the message 'You Matter' and will be issued if 450 paid pre-orders receive DMV approval from the General Assembly.  29 News
  • Charlottesville’s 911 center announced a new Behavioral Health Specialist role to strengthen its response to mental health emergencies—this position will help provide more focused support during crisis calls.  29 News

  • Virginia football coach Tony Elliott led the Cavaliers to a double-overtime upset over No. 8 Florida State on a muggy September night, a win that uplifted the team and local fans.
