  • A lawsuit filed Oct. 3 alleges that former UVA Health CEO Craig Kent and other doctors led an illegal racketeering scheme that prioritized profits over patient safety—resulting in two patient deaths as Kent and former Dean Melina Kibbe called the claims baseless.  The Cavalier Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Virginia Education Secretary Aimee Guidera visited Charlottesville Middle School today to learn about the Innovation Hub—a program made by UVA’s School of Education and Charlottesville City Schools that gives students hands-on science and technology lessons.   • UVA neuroscientists discovered that low pleiotrophin levels (a molecule that supports brain cell connection) may disrupt how cells communicate in Down syndrome research and may guide future studies on potential therapies.  29 News

  • Virginia’s No. 18 Cavaliers will play Washington State Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Scott Stadium—coach Tony Elliott said the team will focus on hard work and avoiding mistakes after a bye week.
