  • On Sunday afternoon, families gathered at Uplevel Martial Arts in Charlottesville for its annual Spooky Ninja Fun Fair.  CBS 19 News
  • Families attended the second annual Touch-A-Truck event at Albemarle Campus Boys and Girls Club where fire engines, police cars and utility trucks served as hands-on classrooms. The Junior League of Charlottesville organized the event and set aside a special sensory-friendly hour—ensuring the experience was safe and engaging for all children.  29 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Virginia Department of Forestry warns local communities to avoid burning large debris piles and to keep fires small as dry vegetation fuels wildfire risks during the fall fire season until November 30—officials said that nine out of ten wildfires are preventable.  29 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Charlottesville will begin collecting loose autumn leaves on Oct. 27 after residents rake them to the curb. Vacuum trucks will visit each neighborhood three times on a rotating schedule and leaves can be dropped off at a set location for farm composting to lower greenhouse gas emissions.  Cville Right Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Pet business owners attended a Pet Tech First Aid and CPR course at Countryside Pet Grooming in Crozet on Sunday to learn vital emergency skills for pets. The hands-on training covered chest compressions, managing shock, and choking—techniques that will help them act quickly when needed.  29 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • In Sunday's windy game at Klöckner Stadium, No. 9 Virginia overcame a scoreless first half and defeated Denver 2-1 with two second-half goals, including a key strike by returning Reese Miller—who is back after an ACL injury. The Cavaliers extended their unbeaten streak to 10 as Denver scored late, and they will host Clemson on Saturday at 6 p.m.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Tyler Fenwick, the senior associate head coach of Virginia swimming, has driven the program’s success by managing recruiting, maintaining a lively Instagram account, and leading coaching and fundraising efforts — including attracting a $2.2M donation that secures long-term growth.   • Slow Run Club at U.Va. offers a welcoming space for beginner runners and those preferring a slower pace and meets today at 6 p.m., Tuesday at 6 p.m., and Friday at 5 p.m.—the club was founded by Kate McCray after her calf injury and now includes over ten members who support each other as they run.  The Cavalier Daily
  • After a double overtime win on Sept. 26 led to a field storm at Scott Stadium that caused 19 injuries and a $50,000 fine for violating rules, top University officials—Jennifer Davis and Interim President Paul Mahoney—issued weak statements without clear plans for better security.   • Virginia secured a 22-20 win after senior Kam Robinson made a two-point safety on Saturday—clinching bowl eligibility for the Cavaliers with a record of 6-1.
