COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Today, 100+ Women Who Care Charlottesville presented a $10,000 check to the Albemarle County Sheriff's Office— the donation will help bolster local law enforcement efforts— in a brief ceremony. 29 News
- ➤ On Nov. 6, members of 100+ Women Who Care Charlottesville gave a $10,000 check to the Albemarle County Sheriff’s Office at Burton’s Grill & Bar so it can buy a new drone for search and rescue. The group raised $10,710 from $100 donations per member (the new drone will replace an outdated one) and has supported local projects since 2008 (totaling nearly half a million dollars in donations). 29 News

- ➤ Downtown business owners have mixed views on a $1.2 million pilot program that will start in early 2026 to bring cleaning and ambassador services to the Mall—some hope it will boost foot traffic while others worry it will push unhoused people away from needed services. Charlottesville Tomorrow

- ➤ The University’s Cosplay, Costuming & Crafts Club offers free workshops at the Shannon Library’s Scholars’ Lab Makerspace—giving students access to expert tools and guidance—and discounted badges to partner conventions, welcoming everyone from beginners to experienced cosplayers. - ➤ Leslie Pryor, who lost the Rio district school board race by 262 votes to Jim Dillenbeck on November 6th, said she plans to run again after serving as her own campaign treasurer. Assuming the result holds, she will leave the board in January—she plans to pick official campaign managers for her next run. Cville Right Now
- ➤ Students at Charlottesville Middle School wore ties on Thursday, November 6 as part of a tradition celebrating Principal Rodney Jordan’s birthday that promoted student leadership. Two eighth graders, Warren Hall (and Oakley Lyman) spurred participation, and Hall said he is considering bringing the tie tradition to the local high school. 29 News
- ➤ The University’s language houses give students an immersive space to practice new languages and build a strong community. Residents in Casa Bolívar, La Maison Française and Shea House enjoy shared study sessions, dinners and fun events—like karaoke—that help them improve their language skills. The Cavalier Daily
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rivanna Solid Waste Authority is hosting its 8th annual Great Pumpkin Smash (at the McIntire Recycling Center in Charlottesville) to turn unwanted pumpkins into compost and reduce landfill waste. The free service (for Charlottesville and Albemarle County) will be available until Monday, November 10. 29 News

- ➤ Charlottesville will block sidewalks for 15 minutes during a precision safe sidewalk project aimed at removing trip hazards — and making them accessible for people with disabilities. The work is scheduled to start November 18. 29 News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ University of Virginia researchers found a new clue about Alzheimer’s disease that shows a loss of brain nets may drive memory loss instead of protein buildup alone. The team will soon test a drug to help preserve these nets — a step aimed at protecting social memory in late stage patients. 29 News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Virginia field hockey won a shootout in their ACC semifinal in (Louisville) when junior back Mia Abello scored the key penalty stroke to send the team to its tenth final appearance, its first since 2022. They will play North Carolina for the ACC title today (Louisville). The Cavalier Daily
- ➤ Virginia football started the season 8-1, marking only the second time in program history the team has reached this milestone, and now leads the ACC. The turnaround is driven by key transfers and a new front office led by Coach Tony Elliott and staff (including consultant Scott Pioli), raising hopes for an ACC title run. The Cavalier Daily
- ➤ Some UVA players who left before the breakthrough season are finding new paths as Anthony Colandrea now shines at UNLV—hometown native Malachi Fields has joined Notre Dame.
