  • Scouting America will hold its 13th annual Scouting For Food event this coming Saturday at 8 a.m. as Scouts return to neighborhoods to collect shelf-stable items for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank— which aims to break the 1-million pound food collection benchmark— to help local pantries prepare for the holiday season.  3WV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UVa’s Alumni Hall was demolished — Aggarwal Hall now stands in its place. Alumni Association officials say the new building will be more accessible and continue to connect community members.  The Daily Progress
  • The Virginia Institute of Autism broke ground this week on a new Webb building—set to house the James C. Hormel Day School, which will double current space and serve 80 students. The project will open in fall to meet growing demand and reduce wait lists.  29 News
  • A community nonprofit and UVA published a report that examines how economic factors play a role in public education—focusing on what happens outside the classroom. The study seeks to reimagine learning by exploring how external conditions influence student success.  29 News
  • Zyahna Bryant was elected to the Charlottesville City School Board—winning nearly 27% of the vote—and joins returning members Emily Dooley and Lisa Larson-Torres to lead public education in the community. She said her first priority is to rebuild trust and amplify student voices, drawing on her long history as a student leader as she prepares to take office in January.  Charlottesville Tomorrow
  • Commerce student Akon Awuok uses TikTok to share her college life with funny videos, exercise routines, and money advice—her content, which includes a viral clip with over 2.5M views, guides fellow students on balancing classes, internships, and fitness.   • 71-year-old veteran John Kelch of Ruckersville regained his smile after Affordable Dentures and Implants in Charlottesville provided free full dental implants and dentures following a truck accident that had knocked out most of his front teeth—restoring his confidence and love for socializing.  29 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Virginia football prepares for its family weekend game against Wake Forest today at 7 p.m. with a seven-game win streak while managing injuries and focusing on one game at a time—head coach Elliott emphasized the need for every play to count.  The Cavalier Daily
  • ACC Huddle returns to Charlottesville ahead of the Wake Forest vs. No. 14 Virginia game — the event is set to take place before kickoff and will offer enhanced college sports coverage.  CBS 19 News
  • Tuesday's season opener saw Virginia women's basketball defeat Morgan State as Romi Levy surpassed 1,000 career points and registered a plus-minus of 33 while playing fewer minutes than others—completing the core with Kymora Johnson and Paris Clark.   • No. 5 seed Virginia women’s soccer lost 3-2 to No. 1 seed Stanford in the ACC semifinal on Thursday after a slow first half cost them valuable goals.
