COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Charlottesville’s Toy Lift is accepting early donations for its holiday drive that will provide gifts to more than 3,000 children in Charlottesville and nearby counties. Donations can be made at drop-off locations or upcoming events before the main collection at Fashion Square Mall on December 5 — organizers say local support makes a difference.  29 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • UVA School of Medicine researchers found that mice lost their memory of family when nets around brain cells—meant to keep memories stable—were damaged in Alzheimer’s disease. They used an FDA-approved drug used for cancer and arthritis to protect the nets and will study human brain tissue in the coming years.  Cville Right Now
  • Hundreds of people gathered on UVA's South Lawn Saturday morning for Pancakes for Parkinson’s, raising over $50,000 for the Michael J. Fox Foundation. The annual event united local families in support—continuing a long tradition of hope and research.  29 News
  • BrightStar Care of Charlottesville has partnered with Second Wind Dreams to offer a free Virtual Dementia Tour that uses sensory equipment—created by a PhD in neurology—to help people feel what dementia and Alzheimer’s are like; the tour finishes with a debrief—where participants share their reactions to better support caregivers and loved ones.  Cville Right Now
  • Veterans and first responders are finding healing in a local farm program where they work with horses and mules—using daily tasks to manage stress and build purpose. Participants say the quiet rhythm of the farm helps them cope and recover.  29 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Charlottesville native Jessica Carter was honored by ESPN and Toyota for her work creating HER Sports, a program that builds girls' confidence on and off the field at Tonsler Park — she plans to use a Toyota grant to expand the program in Central Virginia.  29 News
  • Virginia linebacker James Jackson said the Cavaliers lost to Wake Forest and QB Chandler Morris was injured during the game. He noted that Morris will miss future games because of the injury.  The Daily Progress
  • Virginia struggled Saturday as graduate quarterback Chandler Morris was injured after taking head-level hits from Wake Forest defenders—he was helped off the field amid chants from 55,000 fans. Interim quarterback Daniel Kaelin led the team in a 16-9 loss after missed red-zone opportunities, and coach Tony Elliott said further tests would be performed to check Morris's condition.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Thijs De Ridder scored 20 points to lead UVA to an 81 to 62 win over North Carolina Central as the team built an early lead and never trailed. Malik Thomas added 12 points and other key plays helped the Cavaliers stay ahead throughout the game — showing a strong start to the season.  29 News
