  • Gearharts Fine Chocolate is joining forces with its sister brand James River Chocolate—donating 50% of profits from Gunny’s Bark sales during the week of Veteran’s Day to the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. Owner Tim Gearhart and his son Owen said they were inspired by a family visit to the Marine Corps Museum.  29 News
  • CASPCA is giving pet food to families facing food hardships during the holidays. Development manager Lauren Kroehn said the shelter offers two weekly pet food pantry pickups and welcomes both physical and monetary donations while it seeks a long-term supply solution.  29 News
  • Stepping Stone Charlottesville packs and delivers diapers, clothes, and toys to families with children up to 3 years old in its warehouse. The nonprofit partners with 42 local organizations—using donations and grants to keep its supplies stocked.  Cville Right Now
  • Charlottesville City Market launched its Harvest Special on November 10 to help SNAP customers access affordable fresh produce — officials said the program aims to ease financial strain and improve local nutrition this fall.  The Daily Progress

  • Charlottesville’s new Venture Stage Company debuted its production of 'Dogfight' on Friday at Belmont Arts Collaborative. The musical - set in San Francisco in 1963 - follows Marines on the day before being sent to Vietnam and will run until Nov. 15.  Cville Right Now
  • Music professor Matthew Burtner uses ecoacoustics to blend nature sounds with traditional instruments for opera, theater and film—linking science and policy with art. He teaches courses on ecoacoustics and sustainability that encourage students to merge environmental research with musical innovation.  The Cavalier Daily
  • University Drama presented its first play of the season, 'Continuity' last weekend at Helms Theatre—where audiences watched a one-hour and 20-minute show that mixed comedy with serious themes of climate change and the struggles of filmmaking.   • Enid Krieger, who retired to Charlottesville in 1999, now uses her 38 years of healthcare leadership to highlight Black contributions as a core part of our local history and future.   • Students gathered at the 39th annual CultureFest on Peabody Lawn where 22 contracted independent organizations delivered traditional performances from 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.—interactive challenges allowed attendees to enter raffles for prizes.  The Cavalier Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A government shutdown stalled SNAP funds for 850,000 Virginians last month, but partial benefits are set to become available on November 13 to help households buy groceries. A UVA professor said the program supports many children while challenging stereotypes about spending habits + studies show grocery lists remain similar among SNAP and non-SNAP buyers.  29 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA announced today that it will remove black box warnings from hormone therapy products used to treat menopause symptoms—labels that once linked these drugs to cancer and other risks—and doctor JoAnn Pinkerton said the change is a victory for women’s health.  29 News
  • A UVA student is still recovering from injuries sustained when fans rushed the field after a football game in September—doctors report that the recovery process continues as officials review campus safety measures.  29 News

  • On March 1, Virginia divers met with coach Todd DeSorbo and learned that their team was paused and would not compete next season. Virginia Athletics said the move was due to budget and resource changes—leaving athletes without a clear path forward.  The Cavalier Daily
