COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Loaves & Fishes provides free, healthy groceries suited to family needs for over 200 families a day in Charlottesville and nearby areas three days a week. Executive Director Jane Colony Mills said the organization adapts to challenges such as shutdowns, housing crises and transportation barriers while drawing support from over 100 volunteers.  The Cavalier Daily
  • More than 500 volunteers raked leaves and cleared yards—trading a Saturday sleep-in for work—to support affordable housing projects in Charlottesville.  CBS 19 News
  • Today and Nov. 19, Rose Hill residents can use vouchers to claim a free turkey in a partnership among GovSmart, Do Good Cville, and Kroger—helping families prepare for Thanksgiving.  29 News
  • UVA researchers interviewed 60 community members across Virginia to learn why gun violence happens and to find ways to help youth feel safer. The report found that bullying and neighborhood violence create fear that leads young people to carry guns—indicating that prevention programs could provide better alternatives.  29 News
  • UVA Health’s population health department is teaming up with Community Bikes, UVA Parking and Transport, and Charlottesville Police to gift children bikes with helmets, locks, and bike safety training. The project started after a hospital project manager heard a child ask for a bike during a neighborhood visit.  29 News

  • An Albemarle High School student died in a car accident over the weekend—ACPS sent an email to parents and offered additional counseling services—to help staff and students cope with the tragic loss.  Cville Right Now

  • Dave’s Hot Chicken opened at 5th Street Station and now serves its nationally acclaimed fried chicken to local customers—marking a new addition to the Charlottesville dining scene.  29 News
  • Feast Market and Cafe won two gold awards at Transform Awards North America for best consumer brand evolution and best visual identity in retail — a win that the owner said shows the shop's growing strength amid its rebranding effort.  29 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A wildfire closed 25 miles of Skyline Drive from Rockfish Gap to Loft Mountain and part of the Appalachian Trail near Turk Gap on Monday — Shenandoah National Park enforced a burn ban until 8 p.m. Monday amid red flag warnings for open-air fires.  Cville Right Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Charlottesville’s Central Library will receive a $6.8 million remodel as Jefferson-Madison Regional Library plans to upgrade outdated plumbing, HVAC, and IT systems while creating flexible spaces for users—small improvements to the historic Swanson room will preserve its legacy. City and county officials will start funding talks in July—more details will follow as the plan develops.  29 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Virginia wrestling beat Kent State 27-6 at St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio on Saturday — coach Steve Garland said the team won eight of ten bouts with strong performances from key wrestlers; the Cavaliers will face Michigan Sunday at 2 p.m. on Big Ten Plus.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia will send four tennis players to Orlando for the NCAA Individual Championships that run until November 23+ two players will compete in singles while the same group forms two doubles teams. Coach Sara O’Leary said the team is building strong momentum+ confidence from a busy fall season as they face top college players in the tournament.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia volleyball snapped its four‐week losing streak with a 25‐20, 25‐23, 25‐22, 25‐23 win against Duke as freshman Reagan Ennist made key plays in the final set—boosting team morale ahead of their next ACC matchup.
