  • Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church hosted a one-day Greek Festival in Charlottesville that celebrated traditional food and culture—steady crowds attended the event throughout the day.  29 News
  • Dairy Market in Charlottesville is accepting donations in a winter clothing drive—supporting The Haven by helping provide warm clothing to local residents during the cold season.  CBS 19 News

  • Rhoback opened its first store in Charlottesville—co-founders Matt and Kristina Loftis developed the idea while at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business several years ago.  CBS 19 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new historical marker now stands at Oakwood Cemetery to honor James T.S. Taylor, a Black Civil War veteran and politician from Charlottesville. His marker helps highlight a broader effort to recognize overlooked local history — including the service of many Black Union soldiers from Albemarle County.  29 News
  • The Dogwood Vietnam Memorial in Charlottesville is adding 26 University of Virginia students who died in Vietnam — raising the total to 56 servicemen. Construction is underway near the 250 Bypass and the new plaza with Bricks for Bravery will be finished by December 13.  29 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Virginia Farm Bureau's survey found that the cost of a Thanksgiving meal for 10 people was $80.48 — a slight decline from last year's $81.07. The survey, run from Oct. 20 to Nov. 6, showed turkey prices rose 2% to $1.72 per pound — while most other food prices fell, with Orange County recording the highest and Richmond the lowest overall meal costs.  3WV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Wednesday, Woodbrook Elementary held its first walk-a-thon where 27 classes and over 500 students completed 4,216 laps to raise over $12,000 for school field trips and teacher grants. The PTO organized the event, which easily surpassed its $10,000 goal as final numbers are still pending.  Cville Right Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • UVA received a $5.3 million grant from the Department of Defense—funding research on blast-related brain injuries that aims to improve treatment options. The study will focus on how blast exposures affect brain function and is expected to benefit veterans and other exposed individuals.  29 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Virginia women’s soccer beat Penn State 2-0 at Klöckner Stadium on Thursday as senior forward Maggie Cagle and graduate midfielder Lia Godfrey scored to send the team into the Sweet Sixteen. The team will host No. 4 seeded Washington on Sunday at 2 p.m.—two players were injured during the match.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia's Cavaliers have built a strong season with top transfer talent and solid financial support, and they are set to take on the struggling Hokies in the upcoming Commonwealth Cup on November 29.   • Virginia coach Ryan Odom's team beat Northwestern 83-78 at the Greenbrier Resort — it was a physical game with key scores from freshmen Thijs De Ridder and Chance Mallory — and now the team will play Butler on Sunday.  The Cavalier Daily
