  • On Sunday, Tonsler League gave out free turkeys in Charlottesville to help residents prepare for Thanksgiving.  CBS 19 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Last Thursday, the AcHOOstics sang at the Chemistry Building to raise money for the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA. The University’s only philanthropic a cappella group played upbeat mash-ups and ended the show with a special Lana Del Rey medley that made the crowd cheer.  The Cavalier Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Time Magazine ranked the University of Virginia as the third-leading public university for leadership development, noting its historic ties to figures like Thomas Jefferson and James Madison — it ranked behind UC-Berkeley and the University of Michigan.  3WV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Volunteers and teen team members planted trees Saturday in neighborhoods like Woolen Mills and Fifeville after a planting lesson; they met homeowners’ requests from September — boosting the city’s urban canopy and climate resilience.  29 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers from the UVA School of Medicine and Naval Medical Research Command will use a $5.3-million DoD grant to study how repeated blasts affect the brain of military members. The four studies will use MRI scans to check blood flow and waste removal in the brain — aiming to create tests and treatments to better protect service members.  3WV
  • UVA has launched the Safe Sips program to test for drink tampering and help students stay safe while socializing. The initiative will offer simple testing methods that aim to alert students to potential risks during their outings.  CBS 19 News

  • Lampo Neapolitan Pizzeria in Belmont offers Italian-style pizzas made with proper 00 flour and baked in a wood-burning oven (lowered into the restaurant from above). SPORTS NEWS

  • Virginia's men's basketball team lost to Butler 80-73 in the Greenbrier Tipoff finale—guard Malik Thomas scored 24 points and Butler, led by Finley Bizjack's 25 points, pulled ahead in the second half. The team is 5-1 and will play Queens University at 4 p.m. on Friday.  Cville Right Now
  • UVA will face Virginia Tech on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Scott Stadium in a nationally televised rivalry game on ESPN. A win will clinch a spot in the ACC championship game for the Cavaliers—marking their first chance at the title since 2019— and they remain hopeful to break their recent losing streak.  Cville Right Now
