- ➤ Smithfield Foods donated 25,000 pounds of protein to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank at its Verona headquarters on Monday—kickstarting the Commonwealth Clash that will feature a football game in Charlottesville on November 29. Cville Right Now
- ➤ On November 24, Smithfield donated 25,000 pounds of meat to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank in Verona to fight food insecurity ahead of Saturday night’s game between the Hoos and the Hokies — the event unites rival fans around a common cause as families prepare for Thanksgiving. 29 News
- ➤ UVA Hospital’s nutrition provider collected 42,000 pairs of socks during Socktober for local shelters. The donations, split evenly between The Haven and Salvation Army, tripled last year’s numbers and doubled the 2024 goal — organizers delivered them on Monday as temperatures dropped in the region. 29 News

- ➤ A Pure Barre instructor in Charlottesville is using her own cancer battle to organize life-saving screenings for other women—she plans to hold more events to improve early detection. 29 News
- ➤ UVA scientists developed a new treatment for a rare blood cancer when the FDA approved ziftomenid, a once-a-day pill for patients with acute myeloid leukemia that did not respond to other treatments. The drug works by blocking a specific protein (said UVA’s Dr. John Bushweller) and helps healthy blood cells grow (a breakthrough in targeted therapy). 29 News
