  • Ragged Mountain Running & Walking Shop is hosting its annual 12 Days of Giving by donating 10% of proceeds to a different nonprofit each day ahead of Christmas. The program, which began during the pandemic, honors local community efforts.  29 News

  • Little River Christmas Trees is keeping tree prices the same as last year at its spot in the Aldi parking lot at the corner of Rio Road and Seminole Trail to help families enjoy a real Christmas tree even as business slows this season.  29 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Virginia Guide Service became a Contracted Independent Organization last year and resumed free historical tours in December while reorganizing its structure and training probies for specialty tours on topics such as African American history and medicine. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University and student groups are offering free academic tutoring and mental health support (with coffee tabs at Grit Coffee and extended library hours at Clemons) during finals from Thursday until Dec. 19.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Charlottesville City Schools will issue $100 grocery cards to local families this holiday season to help with essential grocery needs.  CBS 19 News
  • The Honor Committee reviewed its recent success with Lighting of the Lawn’s wristband co-sponsorship and planned finals week student events like goody bags and coffee tabs while discussing measures to boost competitive student elections.   • Earlier today at Summit Elementary, the Chris Long Foundation and First Book donated books while Chris Long and the U.Va. football player Stevie Bracey read aloud to children.  29 News
  • The UVA Darden School of Business held its top rank among public MBA programs in the 2025-26 Poets and Quants rankings. The composite rating (from U.S. News, Financial Times, Bloomberg Businessweek, LinkedIn, and The Princeton Review) reinforces its reputation (a point of pride for the local community).  CBS 19 News
  • On Friday, Dec. 12, Chris Long and UVA football’s Stevie Bracey read to children at Summit Elementary while the Chris Long Foundation, in partnership with First Book, donated 1,400 books through its EdZone Literacy Program.  29 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Student leaders from the University and the College at Wise released a joint statement on Nov. 20 asking the General Assembly to give students more voting power and limit tuition fee hikes. They plan to work on governance reforms and affordability measures to support both campuses (and surrounding communities).  The Cavalier Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • Junior forward Sa’Myah Smith made her home debut after recovering from knee surgery and scored 18 points with eight rebounds to help Virginia beat Howard 76-50 on Wednesday. Coach Agugua-Hamilton said the ideal lineup helped the starters combine for 57 points.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia field hockey wrapped its 2025-26 season with improved offense and standout freshmen performances that nearly doubled shots on goal and bolstered key defensive stats. Coach Ole Keusgen praised the young squad for learning from early setbacks and laying a strong groundwork for future national title pursuits.  The Cavalier Daily
