  • Local organizers hosted the sixth annual toy drive at Mejicali, where children received toys, bikes and decorated cookies as community partners provided free food during a challenging year — an effort set to continue in future seasons.  29 News
  • Police partnered with Hunter Wyant Insurance on Saturday afternoon to bring Santa-themed deliveries to Charlottesville neighborhoods (spreading holiday cheer among local families).  CBS 19 News

  • Tonic will close on Dec. 28 (management announced the decision) and end its operations in Charlottesville.  CBS 19 News
  • Tim Heaphy will open a new boutique law firm with former special prosecutor Jack Smith next month. The firm will offer litigation and investigation services to businesses, local government and universities in Charlottesville.  3WV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Don’t Tell Comedy is hosting its next secret show this Saturday at 8 p.m. indoors at an art gallery (the venue is revealed only to ticket holders) and supports Charlottesville’s growing comedy scene by giving local comedians a unique platform.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Charlottesville’s Dogwood Vietnam Memorial held a wreath ceremony today (part of the nationwide Wreaths Across America program) to honor veterans. The event offered a respectful moment for locals to remember those who served.  29 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University Student Producing Theater class put on a dystopian play (Where Words Once Were) on Wednesday at Helms Theatre using a black box setup that drew the audience into close interaction. HEALTH NEWS

  • Two UVA Health doctors said new Medicare & Medicaid plans will lower costs for weight loss drugs, including Wegovy and Zepbound, this spring to help diabetes and obesity patients in Charlottesville. They expect that employer insurance plans will soon follow these changes.  3WV
