  • The Fluvanna Holiday Market held its first event Saturday to bring local businesses, artists and community members together.  29 News
  • Families are enjoying the holiday season as Magic on the Mall's scavenger hunt continues until Jan. 11 at the Downtown Mall, the Fluvanna Holiday Market took place Saturday with local businesses and artists, and a traditional gift caravan featured Santa handing out toys to community members.  29 News
  • This holiday scavenger hunt offers free fun for families to explore businesses on the Downtown Mall and runs until January 11. Greer Achenbach (Friends of Charlottesville Downtown) said North Pole Passes are available at select stores and the Central Branch of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library.  29 News

  • Local restaurant Revolutionary Soup won a national award from PETA last week for its Peanut Tofu Soup; the honor is part of PETA’s Souper Vegan Awards that recognize the best vegan soups in the country.  Cville Right Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A University of Virginia study — released recently — finds that automated pricing systems may drive higher costs for local shoppers. The research adds evidence to concerns about how these algorithms affect competition and consumer prices.  29 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Snow and ice shut local schools this month, forcing changes in family routines and work calls in Charlottesville. Parents have adjusted care schedules & managed unexpected costs as more wintry weather is forecast.  29 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • During the fall fire season, 152 wildfires burned in the region, including two that closed part of Skyline Drive and the Appalachian Trail near Rockfish Gap for a day. The Virginia Department of Forestry said response efforts saved homes—residents are urged to delay outdoor burning amid dry weather.  3WV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Freezing temperatures and snowy conditions are fueling preventable injuries in our community, according to Dr. Andrew Muck of UVA Health—he advised residents to take time, salt icy steps, and ask neighbors for help to avoid overexertion this winter.  29 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Virginia's women's basketball showed promise and glitches in early season play before ACC games begin. Coach Agugua-Hamilton's Cavaliers, with key players like junior guard Kymora Johnson and forward Tabitha Amanze (adding experience), must improve free-throw efficiency and reduce turnovers to boost performance.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia football faces a busy offseason as key defensive players including Dre Walker, Mekhi Buchanan, Ja’Son Prevard and Tyshawn Wyatt entered the transfer portal over the past week; the portal opens on Jan. 2 with further moves expected as coach Tony Elliott prepares for upcoming changes.  The Cavalier Daily
