EDUCATION NEWS

  • Albemarle County Public Schools received a $1.016 million state grant to build Career Connection labs in middle schools and offer teacher training at local schools in Albemarle, Greene and Charlottesville.   • GO TEC Career Pathways will expand in local middle schools in Albemarle County, Greene County, and Charlottesville by using over $1M from GO Virginia grants to introduce biotechnology, coding, robotics + engineering topics that prepare students for future careers.  29 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A statewide poll by the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association shows that 82% of Virginians rate their local hospitals positively even as rising insurance premiums and out-of-pocket costs raise concerns over access. Pending legislation that cuts Medicaid funding may further affect care in the state.  29 News
  • A Virginia law will require insurance companies to cover out-of-pocket costs for breast cancer screenings starting Jan. 1. The measure is set to ease expenses for patients across the state.  29 News

  • Virginia Cavaliers men’s basketball is set for ACC play as it begins a tough road schedule starting with Virginia Tech, following a big win over American that boosted their record to 11-1.
