  • WINA News Radio, owned by Charlottesville Media Group, was named Outstanding News Operation of the Virginias at a Saturday award banquet in Harrisonburg; anchor Dori Zook won Best Newscast and Best Radio News Anchor + Cville Right Now was recognized as the top website for the second year.  3WV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society opens its exhibit Then & Now: Charlottesville in the 1970s which displays portraits of local figures painted by Frances Brand — the show explores the city’s past. The exhibit runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Vault Virginia on the Downtown Mall.  29 News
  • Chiles Peach Orchard debuts its Tulip Field Days during early spring, inviting visitors to see a three-acre field with over 175,000 tulips along the Blue Ridge Mountains — passes are available every day through Sunday, April 12.  29 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Marjorie Leedy Green, the first female editor of The Cavalier Daily, recalled her time in the mid-1970s when she led the paper against censorship (aiming to protect student free speech) and experienced the University’s early coeducation shift. Her reflections highlight a pivotal moment in student journalism and campus change.  The Cavalier Daily
  • At Thursday’s workshop, Lauren Duval discussed her book The Home Front: Revolutionary Households and explained how British occupation reshaped homes during the Revolution - noting shifts in family roles. The Karsh Institute will host a student oratory contest on April 10.  The Cavalier Daily

  • Former Attorney General Jason Miyares spoke Thursday evening at the Center for Politics lecture at the University as part of the Newnam Family Lecture series. He warned about political polarization and urged citizens to protect civic institutions ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary.  The Cavalier Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Cavaliers clinched their first ACC sweep with a 4-1 win over the Panthers today, marking their ninth conference win. Coach Hardin said the team is ready to face Duke in an upcoming series — a big test for the squad.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia baseball avoided a sweep by beating Boston College 3-1 on a cool spring day at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond. The team struggled at first but rallied in the eighth inning and will face Old Dominion Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Davenport Field before playing Florida State Thursday at 5 p.m.  The Cavalier Daily
