  • Albemarle County Fire Rescue & Charlottesville Fire Department hosted their annual stair climb at John Paul Jones Arena on Saturday to honor the victims of 9/11 with each step.  29 News
  • Albemarle County Fire Rescue and the Charlottesville Fire Department hosted their annual stair climb at John Paul Jones Arena on Saturday to honor the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11. Community members and first responders climbed 110 floors of stairs—paying tribute to the brave individuals and those still affected by the tragedy.  29 News
  • Neighbors gathered at Booker T. Washington Park Saturday—holding the first Blockparty in the Rose Hill neighborhood as a celebration of community. The event showed local unity and marked the start of a new tradition.  29 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University has started its academic year and professors are advising students to learn from their mistakes and use office hours to ease worries like imposter syndrome. They suggest that balancing a manageable course load with interactions with instructors and peers will help students make the most of their time on campus—advice aimed at guiding their success.  The Cavalier Daily
  • During Thursday’s meeting, the University's Advancement Committee reported that the Honor the Future campaign raised over $6.1 billion in donations over six years, with $2.3 billion added to the endowment from 258,000 donors out of an alumni base of about 275,000. Mark Luellen said the campaign surpassed its original $5 billion goal and noted the University recorded $470 million in donations this year— a 14 percent increase— while planning to hire new staff for corporate outreach.  The Cavalier Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Charlottesville Litter Pickers will clean an abandoned encampment site along the Rivanna River on September 20—working with the Rivanna Conservation Alliance to remove waste that might harm wildlife—using heavy lifting and hiking to clear debris. Organizers say the event will help prevent litter from washing into the river and damaging the ecosystem.  29 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • At a meeting Friday, the Board of Visitors named Dr. Mitchell Rosner as executive vice president for health affairs and chief executive officer of U.Va. Health—he served as interim leader since February. He will serve a 3-year term to strengthen hospitals, schools and clinical services with a focus on patient care.  The Cavalier Daily

  • The University of Virginia football team honored fallen teammates at Scott Stadium during its annual UVA Strong game — they won against William & Mary in a memorable victory.  CBS 19 News
  • Virginia men's soccer won 1-0 on Saturday against No.6 Louisville after Luke Burns scored a half-volley—seniors Nick Dang and Reese Miller returned from injury to bolster the team as they prepare for an upcoming game against No.4 Wake Forest.  The Cavalier Daily
